Abu Dhabi Classics – Magida El Roumi

Lebanese superstar lauds diverse and tolerant nature of Abu Dhabi Classics line-up that celebrates artistic excellence from across the globe

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 5 February, 2020: Magida El Roumi, the legendary Arabic singer, hailed the Abu Dhabi Classics ahead of her eagerly awaited concert at du Arena on Friday 7 February, which will round off the schedule for ninth season that is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presented by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and brought to you by du Live.

El Roumi, regarded as one of the greatest vocalists in the Arab world and renowned for her crystal-clear voice and extraordinary vocal range, expressed happiness on returning to Abu Dhabi during a special press conference ahead of its concert.

“I am delighted to return to Abu Dhabi, and it is always a pleasure to see the UAE continue unabated on its path of development. This country’s values of tolerance and co-existence are commendable, and these values clearly reflected in the diverse nature of the programme that the Abu Dhabi Classics has rolled out this year,” said El Roumi.

“It is important that we pay greater attention to reviving the beautiful Arabic musical traditions that we have cultivated over so many years. Arabic music is known for its soulful tunes to some of the most beautiful words ever written and it is our collective responsibility to strive towards preserving and promoting this gift that we have received.”

Running from January 28 to February 7, the Abu Dhabi Classics featured an eclectic line up of global musical talent. The 11-day schedule kicked off on January 28 with a performance of the Bach Concertos from leading French pianist David Fray and fellow pianists Emmanuel Christien, Audrey Vigoreux, and Jacques Rouvier – along with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra at the Cultural Foundation followed by a gala performance of the Stars of the Bolshoi Ballet on Friday January 31 and a special show featuring prodigious French piano sensation Lise de la Salle on Saturday February 1 at the same venue.
